Become a Foster Family
Help us change lives -- one dog at a time
Pets Purpose Animal Support Society (PPASS) was founded in 2023 as a volunteer-run nonprofit and became a registered charity in early 2024. Based in Lloydminster, we are a foster-based dog rescue—meaning we don’t have a permanent shelter. Instead, we rely on dedicated foster families in our community to open their homes to dogs in need.
Together, we provide love, care, and a second chance to dogs who are lost, abandoned, or at risk—and help them find their forever homes and purpose in life.
We’re always looking for compassionate people who want to make a difference. Could that be you?
Why Fostering Matters
Fostering saves lives. It offers dogs a safe and loving environment to heal, gain confidence, and learn important life skills. A foster home prepares them for adoption by helping them adjust to family life, routines, and trust.
By fostering, you become a vital part of a dog’s journey—giving them the best possible chance to thrive in their future home.
What Is a Foster Family?
A PPASS foster family provides a temporary home for one of our rescue dogs until they’re adopted.
You provide the love, comfort, and care—they provide tail wags, affection, and gratitude.
Fostering helps:
-
Keep dogs off the streets
-
Prevent unnecessary euthanasia
-
Keep dogs out of overcrowded kennels
Why Foster?
-
Experience companionship and unconditional love of an animal in need
-
Develop new skills in animal care and training.
-
Create connections within a supportive community of fellow fosters.
-
Make a real and lasting difference in a dog’s life
What Does It Cost?
Nothing! PPASS covers all expenses related to your foster dog—food, supplies, toys, grooming, and veterinary care.
If you're ever running low on anything, just reach out to our Foster Team—we’re here to support you.
Do I Need Experience?
Not at all! While experience with training or medical needs is helpful, it’s not required.
Our Foster Team will work with you to find the right dog for your comfort level and experience. You’ll never be placed with a dog you’re not equipped to handle.
Can I Choose What Type of Dog I Foster?
Yes! Puppies, seniors, dogs with medical needs—we know every foster has different strengths and preferences.
Let us know what you're comfortable with, and we’ll do our best to match you with a dog that’s the right fit. And if you're ever not able to take a dog, that's totally okay—just keep us posted.
What If I Can’t Foster All the Time?
That’s okay, too! We also need short-term fosters, backup fosters, and people who can provide alternate care when someone goes away. Let us know your availability, and we’ll find the right role for you.
Going Away For Holidays? No Problem!
Life happens—and we get that. If you’re fostering and have upcoming commitments like holidays, just let us know.
We’re building a foster community that supports each other and works as a team.
Do I Have to Live in Lloydminster?
Not necessarily! We welcome out-of-town fosters.
We just ask that you’re able to bring your foster dog to Lloydminster for vet appointments and meet-and-greets when needed. We’ll work with your schedule to make it manageable.
Ready to Join Our Foster Team?
The more foster families we have, the more dogs we can save.
If you're ready to open your heart and home—even temporarily—you’ll be giving a dog the second chance they deserve.
